Suspect of gas attack on Porto Metro is arrested and in pre-trial detention

A man suspected of a gas attack in the Porto Metro, on March 18, which left six people injured, was arrested and placed in preventive detention, the Porto PSP announced this Monday, March 30.

According to a statement from this police force, the man is 46 years old and was arrested in downtown Porto on Wednesday, with a gas cylinder, a knife and a stolen cell phone in his possession.

Having been present at the Porto Criminal Instruction Court, preventive detention was decided as a measure of coercion.

On March 18, at Ramalde station, six people were injured, with three hospitalized, after a gas attack that interrupted metro traffic for around an hour.

The perpetrator of the attack on a train that was transporting, at the time, around 50 people, fled, with the PSP believing that the man now detained had acted in this way as a “retaliation”, after a failed robbery attempt.
