The Figure of the Day. The one who never gave up

No Portuguese person, none of our great idols, has climbed Alpe D’Huez, Tourmalet, the Dolomites or Alto de Anglirú so many times without giving up. None of them lasted so many days in a row on the bike, suffering and without the aphrodisiac of fighting to win.

What do I mean by that? Nothing fancy, just the obvious. That in life we all have our role, even those who give up at the first setback — as long as they are alive they can always reverse their destiny.

We applaud winners and forget those who transcend themselves to make the machine work. Hardworking people, who give what they have, who are talented, who climb mountains without applause and public recognition.

Like the person who reviews this chronicle or Carla Silva Lopes, who heads the DN editorial office and who receives the Figure of the Day firsthand every day.
