The heat is over. Rain and cold are back

The weather in mainland Portugal changes radically from this Monday, April 6th. After a few days with temperatures “well above what is normal for the time of year”, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), precipitation and cold are coming due to the influence of a depression that will center to the west of the continent, moving south, and that will remain during the week between the Madeira archipelago and mainland Portugal.

The IPMA forecast indicates that the Precipitation will be more intense and frequent on Tuesday, the 7th, and may be accompanied by thunderstorms. The wind will predominate from the southern quadrant, being more intense in the highlands, where there may sometimes be gusts of up to 80 km/h also on Tuesday.

Furthermore, there will be a sharp drop in maximum temperature values. On Tuesday, the drop could reach up to 10°C in some parts of the territory and thus we will have most of the territory with maximum temperature values below 20°C. The minimum temperature will also register a small drop, varying between 8 and 12°C.

For this Monday, dust is forecastbut these tend to be moved eastwards from Tuesday afternoon, transported in the circulation of the aforementioned depression.

During this period, the swell on the west coast will increase on Wednesday, 8th, with forecast waves from the northwest of 4 to 5 meters.
The IPMA informs that the positioning of this depression will condition the forecasts for the next few days, so there is still some associated uncertainty.
