Last week, torrential rains fell in several entities of the country, causing serious flooding. The most affected states were Veracruz, Puebla, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí and Querétaro. According to official estimates, around 100,000 homes were damaged and more than 42,000 people were left without electricity. In addition, there is a record of 64 people dead and 65 missing.

This is, without a doubt, a tragedy caused by a meteorological phenomenon that should awaken the solidarity of the entire society with the affected people.

Federal and state authorities have acted: they mobilized to the affected areas, brought machinery to clear debris, reopen roads and begin the census that will allow support to be provided to the population.

While this is happening, the opposition in Mexico has decided to undertake – instead of a campaign of solidarity with the victims and support for the work of the government – a political offensive against any action undertaken by the administration of Claudia Sheinbaum and the Morenoist governors.

For example, Ricardo Salinas Pliego stated: “The government of Morena He is not going to allow any individual to help the victims. If someone sends help, they stop it until they label it as ‘Morena support'[…]. “They are perverse and murderers.”

For his part, the leader of the PRIAlejandro “Alito” Moreno, declared: “What is happening in Veracruz It’s a shame! It is outrageous to see how Morena mocks the suffering of the people, how they despise the affected families with a coldness and arrogance that hurts.”

That is, while the country faces an emergency and the government works to help the population, the opposition is dedicated to exploiting the suffering of others to politically attack the government.

The opposition believes that with these campaigns it will gain electoral sympathies and will be able to discredit the administration of Claudia Sheinbaum. However, the only thing it manages to do is expose itself as what it really is: a group of mean politicians who don’t care about the people or the country.
