The Sudanese army announces the repulsion of a massive Rapid Support attack on El Fasher news

Meanwhile, a military source told Al Jazeera that Sudanese army drones “destroyed Rapid Support vehicles that were planning to attack the city of Bara,” which is considered the second largest city in North Kordofan state.

In turn, the 6th Infantry Division said that the army forces inflicted losses on the attacking forces in lives and equipment, and added that the rapid support attack on El Fasher was preceded by intense heavy artillery bombardment.

The division said in a statement today that the attack “was preceded by intense bombing targeting civilians,” stressing that “the enemy suffered heavy losses in life and equipment, as two Sarsar vehicles, 12 armored vehicles, and 25 combat vehicles were destroyed, in addition to receiving a number of combat vehicles and a large quantity of weapons and ammunition.”

The squad noted that the attackers resumed the attack again at ten in the morning from the western axis towards the Golo Reservoir, and the attack was resolutely repelled.

Members of the army broadcast video clips on social media in which they talked about their response to the Rapid Support attack on El Fasher, without providing further details.

Eyewitnesses reported that the Rapid Support launched an attack on El Fasher, at dawn on Saturday, with drones, artillery vehicles, and combat vehicles.

Other witnesses reported that the Rapid Support launched an artillery and combat vehicle attack on the city of Bara, North Kordofan State, on Saturday morning, without mentioning the results of the attack.

The day before yesterday, Thursday, the Sudanese army announced that its forces had repelled a large-scale attack that launched rapid support on El Fasher through 5 axes in the city, with the participation of mercenaries from several countries.

The city of El Fasher is a major center for humanitarian operations in the five states of Darfur, and since May 10, 2024, it has been subjected to a siege imposed by the Rapid Support Forces, amid international warnings of catastrophic repercussions on civilians.

Since the outbreak of war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces on April 15, 2023, about 20,000 people have been killed and more than 15 million displaced and refugees have been displaced, according to international and local reports, while a study prepared by American universities estimated the death toll at about 130,000 people.
