Mexico City.- Between 2018 and 2024, there was a record of 270 fuel spills caused by Mexican Petroleum (Pemex). However, the number corresponds to officially reported data, as there are occasions where fuel stains are reported in bodies of water that are not considered.

According to information from the Emergency Coordination and Support Center (CCAE) belonging to Pemex, the total number of reports by spills and leaks Regarding fuel, there were around 270 cases in that period of time. Therefore, the parastatal was aware of about 38 accidents per year, with moderate and serious importance.

Subsequently, the CCAE also reported on the states where these fuel leaks were recorded. Between 2018 and 2024, the state of Tabasco presented 79 cases; was the entity with the highest incidence. In second place was the state of Veracruz, also with an oil tradition, with a total of 62 cases recorded.

The rest of the ranking of the most affected entities is completed by Tamaulipas, as they recorded 41 incidents related to fuel spills. In fourth place was the state of Chiapas, with 15 confirmed cases; while, in fifth position, the state of Campeche was identified, with some 13 officially known incidents.

However, although the officially reported numbers are high, there are also cases of fuel spills that are not included in the counts of the respective authorities. Even so, the set of incidents of this nature mainly affects the soil and bodies of water.
