The company Hermes Infraestructura, in charge of granting the Lerma-Tenango del Valle highway, in the State of Mexico, announced that the section that includes Lerma and Chapultepec which has been affected for more than a month.

The measure is to carry out maintenance and improvement work on the roads, since for more than a month it has been flooded due to the growth in the level of the swamps and the Lerma River, through which said road crosses.

The announcement was shared through social networks, in which it was reported that as of 10:00 a.m. this Monday, said area, which includes more than 10 kilometers of highwaywhich will be renovated during the next 15 days.

The problem began at the end of August, when the rainy season brought significant rainfall that increased the storage level of the bodies of water, specifically at kilometer five.

Increase in water level

As the days passed, drivers noticed that the height of the water on the asphalt tape progressively increased, going from puddles to a slight flood in a week.

Currently, the flood rises to half a meter in height, which caused problems for the cars that passed through, due to the risk that their vehicle would suffer some damage due to the entry of thousands of liters of liquid, where even trucks and trailers were affected.

Likewise, before the road closure was made official, drivers reported that, despite the deplorable conditions of the road, they charged for its use and, in emergency cases, the staff was slow to help passengers, even when the water level represented a threat.

Added to these complaints were those from residents of the communities surrounding the affected area, such as San Lucas Tunco and San Pedro Cholulawhere the growth of bodies of water has caused damage to homes and streets, which until now have not yet been adequately attended to by local and state authorities, they denounced.

For its part, the company in charge of the concession has reported that, coupled with the extraordinary weather conditions, the lack of maintenance in the local drainage system has been another factor that favored this situation, along with the accumulation of lily and garbage in some points of these two channels through which the highway passes.
