Three days without football, but with cycling, rugby and motorcycling

On a weekend in which the so-called king sport in Portugal is more focused on the preparation games of the teams with a view to the Football World Cup that will take place from June 11th to July 19th in the USA, Mexico and Canada – the national team will play in the early hours of Sunday (2am) with the Mexican team -, perhaps it is a good time to give media space to sports and athletes who represent the country in other sports.

João Almeida is one of these cases. Accompanied, among others, by compatriot Ivo Oliveira, the cyclist from A-dos-Francos (Caldas da Rainha), who represents UAE Team Emirates, is one of the headliners of the Tour of Catalunya. For fans of the sport, this is an opportunity to see in action one of the biggest names in national cycling in recent years in a race that, according to the team, is part of the preparation plan for one of its goals for the season: the Tour of Italy.

What he will achieve is unknown, but, for now, these days can be useful for those who enjoy the sport to see how João Almeida responds to the challenges of the race and his opponents, such as Jonas Vingegaard or Remco Evenepoel, two of the most highly rated cyclists today.

And since we are on cycling, these days some roads in Alentejo receive a loop with the same name, “Alentejana”, which has 20 teams – the main national teams and some training development teams from the World Tour.
