WASHINGTON / LONDON (IT BOLTWISE) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the White House did not bring any clarity about the supply of tomahawk weapons to Ukraine. Despite intensive discussions with US President Donald Trump, many questions remain unanswered, particularly regarding the strategic role of these weapons in the conflict with Russia. Zelensky emphasized the need for further negotiations, while Trump sees himself as a mediator in the Ukraine conflict.

The visit of Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, to the White House had raised hopes that the US could provide Ukraine with Tomahawk cruise missiles. These weapons could allow the Ukrainian army to advance deep into Russian territory and thus play a more offensive role in the ongoing conflict. But after the meeting with US President Donald Trump, many questions remain unanswered.

Trump did not mention the tomahawk weapons in his first post on Truth Social after meeting Zelensky. This leaves room for speculation as to whether the US is willing to supply these sophisticated weapons to Ukraine. During the public portion of the meeting, Trump expressed hope of ending the war without resorting to such weapons.

In recent weeks there have been signals from the US that Ukraine is interested in the Tomahawks. However, Trump remained vague and stressed that the US must keep its own needs in mind. Zelensky, on the other hand, made it clear that Ukraine continues to rely on US support to defend itself against the Russian aggressor.

Another meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest is imminent, which could further influence the dynamics of the negotiations. Trump sees himself as a mediator in the Ukraine conflict, but the exact topics of the meeting with Putin are still unclear. Zelensky is not expected to be present at this meeting, raising questions about how the US will define its role in this complex geopolitical game.

After the meeting, Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine urgently needs weapons to strengthen its defense capabilities. The current air defense systems are not sufficient to effectively defend against Russian ballistic missiles. Ukraine plans to carry out combined attacks with drones and tomahawks to increase pressure on Russia. Whether the US will support this strategy remains to be seen.
