The main European stock markets opened sharply lower today, given US President Donald Trump’s new threat to Iran to destroy energy plants if it does not open the Strait of Hormuz.
At around 8:35 am in Lisbon, the EuroStoxx 600 fell 1.68%, to 563.64 points.
With the euro depreciating 0.27% to US$ 1.1537, the exchange that gave the most was that of Madrid, 2.18%, followed by those of Milan and Frankfurt, which fell 1.97% and 1.94%, while those of Paris and London fell 1.43% and 1.35%.
The Lisbon stock exchange maintained its opening trend and the main index, the PSI, also fell, 1.55%, to 8,620.68 points.
The Euro Stoxx600 index fell 1.68% to 563.64 points.
Dragged by the conflict in the Middle East, the main index on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the Nikkei, closed today with a drop of 3.48%, the main index on the Seoul stock exchange, the Kospi, fell 6.49%, that of the Shanghai stock exchange fell 3.63% and that of the Shenzhen stock exchange lost 3.76%.
The Hang Seng, on the Hong Kong stock exchange, fell 3.42% with little left until the end of the session.
North American future indices point to falls of 0.90% for the Nasdaq and 0.61% for the Dow Jones, after they ended on Friday with a fall of 2.01% and 0.96%, respectively.
