The president of the United States, Donald Trumppromised imminent actions against the Cuban government, at a time when its measures increasingly deepen the crisis on the island.
A day after Trump’s sanctions against Venezuela — including a halt on oil exports to the island — contributed to the latest total blackout in Cubathe president and the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, assured that their government considers the island the next country where the United States could expand its influence.
Díaz-Canel responds to US threats
In response, on social network X, the president of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canelregretted that the United States threatens Cuba almost daily, with forcibly overthrowing the constitutional order.
“They use an outrageous pretext: the harsh limitations of the weakened economy that they have attacked and tried to isolate more than six decades ago,” he added.
“They intend and announce plans to take over the country, its resources, properties and even the economy itself. They seek to suffocate us to surrender. “This is the only way to explain the fierce economic war that is applied as collective punishment against the entire people.”
“In the worst scenario, Cuba is accompanied by one certainty: any external aggressor will encounter impregnable resistance,” he warned.
Trump sends warning to Cuba
This Tuesday, Trump stated that the island is in very bad condition “And we will do something with Cuba very soon”.
The statements occur after the US military operation that resulted in the capture of the then president Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela and the United States military offensive against Iran.
The government of Trump seeks to have President Díaz-Canel leave power as the United States continues to negotiate with the Cuban government, according to a US official and a source with knowledge of the talks between Washington and Havana.
No details have been offered about who the United States would like to take over the reins of the Cuban government.
