Trump insists there are negotiations and cites “a very large gift” from Iran
However, US President Donald Trump said there are ongoing negotiations to reach an agreement on the war launched together with Israel against Iran, which has “a very great gift” to offer Washington.
“What I said yesterday [segunda-feira] it’s absolutely true. We are in negotiations at the moment”said Donald Trump in statements at the White House.
The American leader indicated that his envoy Steve Witkoff, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, the vice president, JD Vance, and the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, are involved in the dialogue process, which has so far been denied by Tehran.
In his statements on the occasion of the inauguration of the new Secretary of Homeland Security, Markwayne Mullin, Trump said that Iran has “a very great gift” for the United States.
Without providing details, he ruled out that the alleged gift was linked to the Iranian nuclear program, but admitted that it was “related to the flow of oil and gas in the Strait of Hormuz”, placed under military threat by Tehran, which caused hydrocarbon prices to soar on a global scale.
“Yesterday [segunda-feira] they did something incredible. In fact, they gave us a gift, and the gift arrived today. It was a very large gift, of enormous economic value. I won’t say what the gift was, but it was very meaningful. And they gave it to us”he stated.
The US President added that this is “a very kind gesture”, which demonstrates that the White House is “dealing with the right people”, and at the same time a sign that Iran “will reach an agreement” to put an end to the conflict started by the Israeli-American air offensive on February 28.
After the assassinations of senior Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, there was a “regime change” in the Islamic Republic, according to Trump, and Tehran’s current representatives “are very different” from those who, before the conflict, “created all these problems”.
