Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing a 25% tariffs on imported medium and heavy trucksin addition to a 10% for busesstarting next November 1st.
This decision comes after the US government began an investigation in 2025 into the section 232referring to truck imports in order to determine their effects on the national security.

A US official clarified that these new tariffs will not apply in their entirety to trucks from Mexico and Canada, as long as its production meets the criteria established in the T-MEC.
Likewise, he pointed out that only the parts manufactured outside the United States They will be subject to the 25% tariff. But, for the moment, they will remain exempt until the Department of Commerce determines how to apply the tax.
On the other hand, in the case of buses, the 10% will be applied entirely to vehicles coming from the two neighboring countriesregardless of whether they are included in the T-MEC or not.

The US imports 78% of its trucks from Mexico
The firm Capital Economics assured that The United States imports 78% of its trucks from Mexico and 15% from Canada.
The White House extended until 2030 the 3.75% deduction on the list price that manufacturers can apply to American made carscontaining imported parts, this in response to a request from the automotive industry to reduce the impact of tariffs on manufacturers.
It will be applied in the same conditions to trucks made in the United States.
