The president of the United States, Donald Trump, suspended scheduled bombings against Iranian infrastructure on Tuesday minutes before the expiration of his ultimatum, after conversations with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, and Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Trump warned hours earlier on Truth Social that “an entire civilization will die tonight, never to return” if Iran did not meet his demands. The deadline expired at 6:00 p.m., central Mexico time.

“Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir of Pakistan, and in which they asked me to stop the destructive force being sent to Iran tonight, I agree to suspend bombing and attacks against Iran for two weeks,” Trump wrote on his platform.
The suspension is conditional on Iran agreeing to “the complete, immediate and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz.” Trump called the ceasefire “bilateral” and claimed to have “met and exceeded all military objectives” without firing.
The US president noted that he received a 10-point proposal from Iran that he considers a “viable basis for negotiating.” “Almost all points of past dispute have been agreed between the United States and Iran,” he said.
Maximum Voltage
The decision comes after a day of maximum tension in which 14 million Iranians formed human chains around power plants, bridges and other infrastructure to try to deter the attack.

Pope Leo XIV called Trump’s threats “unacceptable,” while the Iranian ambassador to the UN described them as “deeply irresponsible” and revealing an intention to commit crimes against humanity.
The two-week period will allow, according to Trump, “the agreement to be finalized and consummated” to achieve “long-term peace with Iran and peace in the Middle East.”
