Four people from the same family, of German nationality, died this Friday, April 3, in a road collision involving three cars on Complementary Itinerary 1 (IC1), in the municipality of Santiago do Cacém, district of Setúbal, said Civil Protection. The alert was given at 3:10 p.m.
The accident led to the closure of traffic in the area of the collision, at kilometer 638.200 of the IC1, in the Alvalade do Sado area, reopening to traffic at 8:06 pm, after being blocked for five hours due to a fatal accident, Civil Protection reported.
In addition to the four fatal victims, the accident also caused one serious injury, who, however, was transported in a helicopter from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) to Santa Maria Hospital, in Lisbon.
The fatal victims are all from the same family, being a man, a woman and two children aged 12 and 14, according to SIC Notícias.
The relief operations mobilized a total of 33 firefighters from Alvalade do Sado, Ourique and Aljustrel, INEM and GNR, supported by 12 vehicles and the helicopter.
