Two dead in collision between plane and firefighting vehicle at New York airport

The pilot and co-pilot died after a plane collided with a firefighting vehicle at LaGuardia Airport in New York on Sunday, several North American media outlets announced, including ABC.

This North American broadcaster reported that 13 people were hospitalized, including 11 passengers and the two people in the vehicle.

An Air Canada plane and a fire department vehicle collided on Sunday night at the New York airport, local media previously reported.

Also according to local media, the collision occurred on runway four, when the CRJ-900 aircraft of the Canadian airline Air Canada, coming from Montreal, was landing.

“The emergency intervention protocols were immediately activated” and “the airport is currently closed to facilitate the intervention and allow for an in-depth investigation”, noted the airport authority.

The North American Transportation Safety Agency (NTSB) announced that it had immediately mobilized a team to investigate the accident.
