In recent days, Russia has intensified nighttime drone and missile attacks against Ukraine, particularly targeting the country’s energy system, as winter approaches.
On Friday, one of the most intense Russian bombings of Ukraine’s energy grid plunged much of the capital, Kiev, and nine other regions into darkness.
During the last week, “more than 3,100 ‘drones’, 92 missiles and around 1,360 glide bombs were used against Ukraine”, Zelensky denounced today, in another message published on Facebook.
On Saturday, the Ukrainian President had appealed to his American counterpart, Donald Trump, to negotiate peace in Ukraine, after he reached an agreement on Gaza.
“If a war can be fought in one region, then other wars can certainly also be fought, including the war led by Russia,” he said during the telephone conversation.
Also today, the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy reported that last night’s Russian attacks caused damage to electricity and gas infrastructure in the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Odessa and Chernihiv.
For the third day in a row, targeted attacks have occurred against electricity and gas transmission networks, and emergency services are currently working to stabilize power supplies where they have been affected.
“In the morning, the Russians attacked our energy infrastructure again. Experts have already started repairs and are doing everything possible to restore supplies. But the magnitude of the damage and the end of the repairs are yet to be determined,” said the head of the regional military administration, Vadim Filashkin, on Telegram.
