value the territory and the community

Tourism is an important area of economic activity that must, above all, be placed at the service of people and territories. As public managers and political actors, it is up to us to ensure that the growth we have recorded is not limited to numbers, but translates into real appreciation for our community. It is essential to ensure that this development contributes in a balanced way to the quality of life of residents and to the preservation of the identity that distinguishes our places.

In Cascais, tourist demand continues to grow due to the level of quality of life in our municipality. We are a city hall that knows how to welcome and create enriching experiences for everyone who visits us.

As is the case in other municipalities in Portugal and Europe, the biggest challenge generated by tourism in Cascais is to ensure that the greater influx results in a positive impact on the lives of residents. One of the solutions we have implemented is the simple premise that whoever visits must contribute to maintaining what they enjoyed. Ultimately, leave Cascais better than the town you found.

To this end, we created the tourist tax, the revenue from which we always use from a long-term circular perspective. To date, these resources have been channeled on several fronts in our municipality. In addition to being used to rehabilitate the historical heritage of the four parishes of our municipality, to protect green spaces and the coastline and to strengthen municipal services that work every day to guarantee and improve the quality of life of Cascais residents, they are also invested in promoting local commerce, with initiatives such as “Digital Neighborhoods”, gastronomic culture or sustainable mobility in our municipality.

This structural strategy attracts valuable tourism, which can be put at the service of citizens and become an important mechanism for the development of municipalities. Above all, tourism is always a means and never an end; and can be a valuable tool to preserve the local identity of our territory, which past generations have worked so hard to build for present and future generations.

In city halls, promoting tourism without losing local identity requires having a consolidated vision for the future of communities. In Cascavel, we have a

Commitment to putting tourism at the service of citizens over the next ten years. Because the quality of life of our inhabitants depends not only on their work, but also on the contributions of those who visit us. Making them efficient is the obligation of those who govern for the good of their community.
