Vehicle rental in Madeira generated 108.9 million in 2024 with more than 431 thousand contracts

Driverless vehicle rental services in Madeira registered 431,492 contracts last year, generating revenue of 108.9 million euros, the Regional Statistics Directorate (DREM) indicated this Monday, 6th.

According to the provisional results of the quarterly survey with car rental companies in the region, the majority of contracts were made with delivery to the airport (58.9%), followed by rental company offices (32.3%) and hotels (8.8%), says DREM, in a statement.

Throughout the year, the number of contracts reached the highest value in the third quarter (122,568) and the lowest in the fourth (88,325), a period in which there was a drop of 27.9% compared to the previous quarter.

The vehicle fleet increased until the third quarter, reaching 13,271 units, before falling to 12,001 in the last four months of the year.

In total, 424,427 customers were recorded in 2025, “evidence of positive quarterly evolution in the first three quarters of the year”.

“In the first quarter, 97,440 customers were registered, increasing to 118,018 in the second quarter (+21.1%) and to 124,249 in the third quarter (+5.3% compared to the previous quarter). In the fourth quarter, there was a reduction to 84,720 customers, corresponding to a decrease of 31.8% compared to the previous quarter”, says DREM.

The third quarter was the period that generated the most total revenue (39.7 million euros) and the fourth quarter the one that generated the least (21.7 million).
