The National Meteorological Service (SMN), official climate source of the Government of Mexico, reported that this Friday, October 17, very heavy to intense rains are expected in the south, southeast and the Yucatan Peninsula.

A low pressure area with a probability of cyclonic development off the coast of the Mexican South Pacific and the entry of humidity will generate very heavy rains in Guerrero and Oaxaca, in addition to high waves on the coast of Oaxaca.

Cold front no. 7 will extend very close to the northern border of Mexicowill interact with a trough at medium and high levels of the atmosphere over the northwest of the country and with the subtropical jet stream, causing drop in temperature, strong gusts of wind, rain and showers in these regions.

During the afternoon, The frontal system will move towards the southern United States, while a dry line will be established in northern Mexicocausing strong gusts of wind with possible formation of whirlwinds in Coahuila.

In turn, a low pressure channel over the interior of the national territory, in combination with the entry of humidity from the Pacific Ocean and Gulf of Mexico, will cause occasional heavy showers and rains in the west, center, east and northeast of the Mexican Republic, in addition to the Yucatan Peninsula.

Finally, tropical wave no. 38 will move over the Mexican southeast, generating showers and heavy rains in said region, with intense occasional rains in areas of Chiapas (Border, Sierra and Soconusco regions)..

The intervals of showers and occasional strong to intense rains will be accompanied by electric shocks and could be accompanied by hail falls.

Rain forecast for today, October 17, 2025:

Very heavy rains with intense occasional events (75 to 150 mm): Chiapas (Frailesca, Fronteriza, Sierra and Soconusco regions).
Heavy rains with very strong spots (50 to 75 mm): Guerrero (coast and east), Oaxaca (west and coast) and Quintana Roo (east).
Showers with occasional heavy rains (25 to 50 mm): Michoacán (coast), State of Mexico (southwest), Morelos (north), Puebla (Mixteca and Tehuacán-Sierra Negra regions), Veracruz (Papaloapan, Los Tuxtlas and Olmeca regions), Tabasco (west and south), Campeche (southwest) and Yucatán (east).
Shower intervals (5 to 25 mm): Durango (center, west and south), Sinaloa (south), Nayarit (north and coast), Jalisco (coast and south), Colima, Zacatecas (west), Mexico City and Tlaxcala (south).
Isolated rain (0.1 to 5 mm): Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, Querétaro and Hidalgo.

Heavy to intense rain could reduce visibility, increase river and stream levels, and cause ponding, landslides and flooding.

Strong gusts of wind could cause trees and billboards to fall.
