The Orange (11-5) returns home victorious from a road trip that began with a loss to Clemson but ended with back-to-back wins over ACC foes.
Syracuse put on quite an impressive shooting show in a solid win over Pittsburgh, knocking down a season-high 10 threes and keeping pace.
Sophomore Donnie Freeman continued his strong performance, leading the Orange with 22 points while shooting efficiently and hitting three shots from deep. JJ Starling was right there with him, adding 19 points and making big shots when Syracuse needed them most. William Kyle III also impressed, scoring 11 points, going high on a pair of emphatic dunks and showing off his defensive prowess with four steals.
Syracuse started hot and never trailed, using an early run to gain control and force Pittsburgh to catch up the rest of the way. The team shot really well overall, including at an excellent clip from beyond the arc, and shared the scoring between a lot of contributors. Every time Pitt seemed to gain some momentum, Syracuse responded, whether with a three-pointer or a big bucket inside.
Most notable was Syracuse’s balance: They shot efficiently, took shots from deep and got more playmakers to step up. It wasn’t a perfect effort and Pittsburgh tested the Orange’s focus late, but Syracuse did enough on both ends to earn a confident victory.
They now face the Seminoles at home in a game that should heavily favor the Orange. Florida State is 7-9 overall and 0-3 against conference opponents so far this season. When these teams met last March, Syracuse won 66-62, and the Orange are 8-7 all-time against the Seminoles.
