A 27-year-old woman was riding pillion when she was injured after falling from a motorbike at 200 kilometers per hour on the A41, in the Gondomar area, late on Sunday afternoon (March 29). The motorcyclist ended up fleeing the scene without providing assistance. The GNR reported this Monday (30) that the 31-year-old man was accused “of dangerous driving, failure to assist, driving without a legal license and harm to physical integrity through negligence”.

According to the Newspaper, the motorcyclist is the brother of the victim, who was taken to Santo António Hospital, in Porto, where she is hospitalized with a poor prognosis.

The accident would have occurred shortly after 5pm on Sunday when the two brothers were returning home after a ride in a Honda CBR 100, which was traveling at more than 200 kilometers per hour, according to sources contacted by JN.

The passenger ended up being thrown onto the asphalt and, according to the newspaper, the motorcyclist, realizing that his sister had fallen, still stopped, but fled the scene without providing assistance. It would have been a driver, who was following behind the motorcycle, who alerted the authorities.

“As part of a road accident, which occurred on the A41, parish of Covelo, municipality of Gondomar, the military went to the scene, where they discovered an accident involving a motorcycle, with one of the passengers falling, a 27-year-old woman, who was transported to a hospital,” explains the GNR, in a statement.

The Road Accident Crime Investigation Unit of the Porto GNR Territorial Command ended up “identifying the driver and locating” the motorcycle involved in the accident. “The suspect did not have a legal license to drive,” according to authorities.

The suspect was arrested and the facts were sent to the Judicial Court of Gondomaradds the note from the GNR, which reminds us that “leaving the scene of a road accident resulting in injuries could constitute, in abstract terms, the commission of the crime of omitting assistance”.
