On Thursday, April 9, Otis Portugal workers will carry out a 24-hour national strike, accompanied by a sit-in at the company’s headquarters, in Mem Martins, for salary increases and negotiation of the demands list.
According to the information made available this Monday, the strike was called by the unions linked to Fiequimetal/CGTP-IN and covers workers across the country, following plenary meetings held in the various regions.
Among the main demands is an increase in the base salary of 15%, with a minimum of R$150 for all workers, with retroactive effect to April 1, 2026.
The unions also defend the increase in seniority payments to 50 euros, the increase in the meal allowance to 14 euros, or 20 euros outside the usual work area, and the creation of a monthly function allowance of 50 euros for workers who perform electromechanical functions.
According to the union, the administration’s response, presented in February, was limited to a 2.5% salary update, considered insufficient and far from the workers’ proposals.
The unions also accuse the company of devaluing workers despite the positive results, saying that the operation in Portugal would have recorded profits of around 22 million euros, being part of a growing multinational group.
Fiequimetal also criticized alleged attempts to limit the right to strike, considering “intimidating” a communication from the administration about minimum services, which, according to the union structure, do not apply to the sector.
The concentration scheduled for Mem Martins intends, according to prosecutors, to demonstrate the unity of workers and reinforce the pressure to open negotiations.
Otis engages in the manufacturing, installation, maintenance and repair of elevators and escalators.
