Wrestlers square off at the Phoenix Mid-Winter Classic (63 photos)

Wrestlers from Section III and beyond converged on Saturday for the annual Mid-Winter Classic at John C. Birdlebough High School in Phoenix.

Fulton won the team title with a score of 223. Fayetteville-Manlius finished second (203.5), host Phoenix took third (179), Central Square took fourth (166) and East Lyme of Connecticut finished fifth (149.5).

In the 118-pound title match, Fulton’s Zachary Hammond pinned Central Square’s Sam Widrick at the 41 second mark.

The Red Dragons scored another victory, this time in the 126-pound title match. Lucas Hammond won 12-7 over Chenango Valley’s Travis White.

Fulton’s Colleen Austin notched a 13-2 major decision over Central Square’s Landyn Dignean in a 165-pound title fight.

In the FM’s 175-pound championship match Harrison Schwab conquered Carthage Nathan Countryman with a technical fault 15:0.

For comets, Deandre Dawkins won 8-4 over East Lyme’s Jacob Palermo in the first-place match at 285.

Central square Adam Dorn beat teammates Christopher Pulis6-5, in the 103-pound championship match.

Phoenix’s Scott Hunneyman recorded a 9-6 decision over Mason Stark of Peru in the 138-pound title match. Also for Firebirds, Jayden Thomas won by fall (1:32) over East Lyme’s Reese Georgian in the 150-pound championship match.

the hornets Caleb Haase won a 16-2 major decision against Syracuse Teddy Toe in a 215-pound title fight.

In the 190-pound championship match, Syracuse’s Ryan Brown pinned teammate Jeffrey Petties at the 24 second mark.
