To contribute to the economy of Merida families, municipal president Cecilia Patrón Laviada gave free glasses from the See Better in your Back to School program to basic education students, a bulletin reports.
“We will continue touring the primaries so that more and more students can see better, prepare with dedication and achieve their dreams,” the mayor highlighted before the beneficiaries of the “Joaquín Coello Coello” primaries, morning shift, and “Felipe Carrillo Puerto,” afternoon shift, in the Nueva Mulsay I neighborhood.
In this aspect of the Ver Mejor program, children from six to 12 years old were served, who previously participated in visual diagnosis sessions during September.
The support consists of single vision and bifocal lenses of up to six diopters, with UV protection (UVA, UVB, UVC), and anti-scratch coating for longer duration, for the benefit of 358 children in the south, east and west of the city.
To date, the City Council has delivered 6,280 free glasses, exceeding this year’s projected goal of 5,000 glasses and which has benefited children, but also young people, adults, people with disabilities and the elderly.
“Our goal is to transform their lives with a City Council that is close, present and with a heart willing to improve their future,” said the councilor accompanied by the director of Social Development and Combating Poverty, Arturo León Itzá.
This program provides tools to have a full life, with more opportunities with education, reaching various schools in the neighborhoods and police stations.
Thinking about the meridanos and the cost it represents for the home to invest in glasses, this benefit generates significant savings in the families’ pockets.
“We make sure that every peso is invested in the people, in those who need it most, but above all so that they can live happy and fulfilled,” said the municipality.
He also thanked the mothers and fathers for trusting their City Council, and the teachers for continuing to promote education and take care of the children of Merida.
In the activity, the mayor was accompanied by deputies María Teresa Boehm Calero and Zhazil Méndez Hernández; Margarita Cortés Sánchez, the director of the “Felipe Carrillo Puerto” primary school; Juan Manuel Solís Vázquez, the supervisor of School Zone No. 29, and Jesús Pérez Ballote, the director of Human Welfare.
