He Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) of Indonesia reported in a statement that the first eruption took place at 1:35 local time (17:35 GMT on Tuesday) and the second at 9:21 (1:21 GMT), with respective durations of nine and three minutes, accompanied by loud bangs.

Precautionary measures after eruptions

The authorities have warned of potential lava flooding in rivers that are born at the top of the volcano in case of rain and have recommended to residents and visitors of nearby areas Cover your nose and mouth to avoid breathing ashas well as staying away within a radius of about seven kilometers.
The day before, the authorities already warned of possible eruptions, after detecting an increase in “deep volcanic earthquakes.”

On July 7, Lewotobi Laki-Laki recorded its largest eruption since 2023, with a dense column of ash that rose about 18 kilometers above its peak, confirmed then the director of the Indonesian volcanology agency, Hadi Wijaya.
This volcano, in the southeast of Flores, has been of frequent activity for months. In June, an eruption forced the cancellation of more than 30 flights to and from the Bali island touristwhile last November a series of eruptions left nine dead.
Indonesia is home to more than 400 volcanoesof which at least 129 remain active and 65 are classified as dangerous.
