EU FTA a positive start to 2026, it’s an era of solutions: PM Modi

New Delhi: Emphasizing that the present time is one of solutions and resolutions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his customary remarks at the start of the budget session of Parliament, emphasized that the India-EU Free Trade Agreement had started the year on a positive note and the momentum should continue.

In his press statement on Thursday, Modi said, “The time is not for disruption but for solutions, not for obstacles but for solutions. All members of Parliament should join in accelerating the era of solutions, empowering decision-making and making successful progress in the last mile.”

The prime minister claimed that 2026 marks the end of the first quarter of this century and the beginning of the next. “The next 25 years are crucial for achieving the goal of a developed India by 2047 and this budget is the first in the second quarter of a century,” he said.

Reiterating his view that the India-EU FTA is the “mother of all agreements”, Modi emphasized that this positive start is also a confirmation that India has emerged as a self-confident nation, a ray of hope and a center of attraction for the world. The agreement opens up opportunities for Indian fishermen, farmers, youth and those in the service sector.

The Prime Minister said that this FTA reflects a bright future for India’s youth and a promising path ahead. “This deal is a free trade for ambitious India, for ambitious youth and for Atmanirbhar Bharat,” he said.

While encouraging Indian manufacturers to seize this opportunity, he also cautioned them on the need to maintain international quality standards.

Modi said a huge market has now opened up and Indian goods will reach European Union countries at lower costs, but this should not lead to complacency among industry leaders and manufacturers. “Entering this open market with the best quality products will not only earn profits from buyers in the 27 EU countries, but also win their hearts and create a long-term impact for decades,” he said, adding that there is an opportunity to create new prestige not only for the brands of Indian companies but also for the national brand. This FTA opens up opportunities for Indian fishermen, farmers, youth and those in the service sector who are eager to explore global avenues. He expressed his belief that this marks a significant step towards a confident, competitive and productive India.

On the budget to be presented on February 1, the prime minister said his government is aligned with the motto “Reform, Implement and Transform”.

“The nation is now moving fast on the Reform Express. I thank all Members of Parliament for contributing their positive energy to accelerate this reform journey,” he said.

The nation is moving away from long-term problems towards long-term solutions, creating predictability and building global trust in the process. Modi emphasized that every decision aimed at progress remains human-centred. He emphasized that while India will compete with technology, absorb it and embrace its power, the government will never compromise on human-centric systems and will move forward with a vision that balances technology with sensitivity.
