TIJUANA.- A live broadcast carried out by three inmates of the Social Reintegration Center (Cereso) of La Mesain Tijuana, sparked an official investigation after the video circulated on social networks and digital media.
The recording, 8 minutes and 40 seconds long, shows three women deprived of liberty interacting with the public, showing their food and joking about their stay in prison.
In the video, captured inside a cell, the inmates mention the time they have been held and share details of their daily lives.
“Here in the La Mesa prison. I am the Brisa of Buenos Aires, send the money,” says one of them, while another adds: “So you can see what we eat… this is the delicious, rich, succulent food of the La Mesa prison.”
During the broadcast, the inmates also ask viewers not to ask about their records or crimes and point out that they are there for qualified homicide. According to the portal that reported the case, the material would have been recorded on August 7, 2025.
They confirm the authenticity of the video and dismiss the director
He Secretary General of the Government of Baja California, Alfredo Alvarez Cardenasconfirmed the authenticity of the images and explained that the director of the prison was removed from his position as one of the first measures after the facts became known.
“The director of that prison was removed from his position approximately three weeks ago, and the investigations carried out by the Anti-Corruption Secretariat are very advanced,” reported Álvarez Cárdenas.
For its part, the Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda acknowledged that the video is real and assured that reviews of security protocols and signal inhibitor equipment are already being carried out, some of which do not adequately block the network 5G.
“Technology has advanced and the devices we had no longer inhibit the 5G signal. We are in the process of replacing them with more modern devices,” the president explained during her morning conference.
Inmates would have been sanctioned after the video was broadcast
According to information from the local media that broadcast the case, the three women who participated in the broadcast were beaten and taken to different areas of the prison, in addition to being denied access to their lawyers, although the authorities have not officially confirmed these actions.
He Secretary General of Government recognized that the state penitentiary system faces administrative and infrastructure delays, which has complicated the technological modernization of detention centers.
“We receive the penalties with a tremendous delay, both administratively and technologically. It is a complex and expensive process to resolve,” said Álvarez Cárdenas.
The state government reiterated that the research continues and that the corresponding administrative and criminal responsibilities will be determined, both for the personnel involved and for the inmates who participated in the recording.
