VATICAN CITY (EFE).— Pope Leo
“How many questions put our teaching in crisis!” he exclaimed. “Questions from the young, from the poor, from women, from those who have been silenced or condemned for being different from the majority. We are in a blessed time: so many questions!”
“The Church becomes an expert in humanity if it walks with humanity and carries in its heart the echo of its questions,” he added.
The American pontiff toured St. Peter’s Square aboard the popemobile, where he greeted thousands of pilgrims gathered for the Holy Year, after appearing about twenty minutes late.
Message from Leo XIV
In his speech, Leo
“Many of his contemporaries lived in fear; others armed themselves, preparing new crusades. Nicholas, on the other hand, chose from a young age to associate with those who had hope (…). He believed in humanity. He understood that there are opposites that must remain united,” he said.
In conclusion, the Pope recalled that the Church “does not have answers to all questions,” but defended the need to compose “a people in which opposites are integrated into unity.”
