Nobel Prize in Literature 2025 Awarded to Hungarian László Author Krasznahorkai

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences on Thursday awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature to Hungarian author László Krasznahorkai, recognised “for his compelling and visionary oeuvre that, in the midst of apocalyptic terror, reaffirms the power of art,” the Swedish Academy announced.

Since its inception, the Swedish Academy’s Nobel committee has awarded the literature prize 117 times to 121 recipients. Last year’s honour went to South Korean novelist Han Kang, recognized for a body of work that, according to the committee, “confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life.”

This year’s literature prize follows the announcements of the 2025 Nobel laureates in medicine, physics, and chemistry. The Nobel Peace Prize will be revealed on Friday — with U.S. President Donald Trump seen as an unlikely contender, despite his recent remark to United Nations delegates that “everyone says that I should get the Nobel Peace Prize.”
The final award of the season, the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, will be announced on Monday.

All Nobel Prizes are formally presented on December 10 — the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death in 1896. A Swedish industrialist and the inventor of dynamite, Nobel established the prizes to honour exceptional contributions to humanity.

Each laureate receives 11 million Swedish kronor (about $1.2 million), along with an 18-carat gold medal and a diploma.
