Sánchez should not be able to recover without annual parliamentary approval

Today’s launch of the 2025 Rent Declaration campaign offers an opportune opportunity to consider the worrying state of taxation in Spain.

Because now it’s up to the citizens invoice in front of the Hacienda, it will be difficult to avoid a sense of burden when we realize the contradiction between the demanding fiscal expenditure and the Leonese commitments of transparency and rigor that it must bear, and blatant fiscal indiscipline and a perceived lack of transparency in what affects government.

The executive can launch all the tax care information campaigns it wants, but the taxpayer who feels vulnerable to the social contract cannot be blamed.

Because in paying your bills adjusted to the real economic reality, the state provides the services that the parties are deprived of and benefits from the additional money that it needs. silent tax inflation.

Appreciation is not a threat to reality.

Now the Spanish are paying more than ever (the fiscal recession broke a new historical record, it grew by 325,356 million euros last year), we have received in exchange for services that we have never seen and for a long time we are paying higher prices than ever (inflation accumulated in recent years, five years ago it was around 26%).

At the same time as the new revenue campaign, the PP is celebrating this amazing act of protest against Spain’s “fiscal hell”, attributing the continuous increase in revenue (more than 140,000 million as of 2018) to no deflation of the IRPF, the creation of new impuests and the century-old cases of tax sanctions brought about during the Sancho era.

But whether the PP says so or not, the government will hardly be able to deny the truth of the complaint.

The executive’s refusal to update the status levels of the IRPF over these years to adjust them to the speed of prices and the subsequent automatic increase in the nominal taxable bases increased the average effective type of IRPF to an all-time high (14.4% in 2024).

Income tax on individuals who are currently employed (that is, those who generate the most income) is the tax figure that has increased the most since Sánchez has been in power. This means paying labor costs fiscal pressure that seems unbearable to you for the pauperized Spanish middle class.

And while the citizen has to do things to adapt his tax return to the types and times of 2025/2026, the state receives this money according to the plan from three years ago.

Because it cannot be overlooked that the Sánchez executive continues to operate with the extension of the General Assumptions on the State of 2023, approved in 2022.

And what’s worse: The Minister of Hacienda flatly refused to submit it during the last three elections, the parliamentary mayor’s care needed to be tempered.

Since the government has understood that the harrowing pedagogy remains important to the incumbent for the third consecutive year of the constitutional mandate, which commits to presenting the PGE project before Congress less than three months before the previous year expires, this is an absolute anomaly in a parliamentary democracy which cannot be normalized under any concept.

In recent episodes, such as the defense of social security in dealing with the energy crisis due to the conflict in Iran, or the compromise with OTAN to cut 2% of GDP in military gas, the discomfort of caring for parties designed for this class of contingencies is evident.

The solution that the executive has come across is to resort to assumed adjustments such as credit expansions or transfers. A device designed for timely modifications that do not replace the original requirements for the second door.

But the gravity that goes into taking care of checking accounts goes beyond the purely economic.

Voting on general assumptions of the state It is the government’s fiscal instrument par excellenceit is public funds that ultimately determine the extent of effective executive execution.

Not for nothing, the motive that God arose in the assemblies in the Middle Ages was precisely to prevent the king from imposing arbitrary taxes and obliging them to ask for “help” from social institutions to obtain the approval of the courts.

O sea, a thought condensed in a glorious themeNo taxation without representation [“No hay tributación sin representación”]restored in the prelude to the American Revolution.

Just as the colonists legitimized the emancipation of the three colonies of the metropolis by arguing that it was illegitimate that the British Parliament had invaded them without having elected representatives in it, it is unfair that the government pretends to have launched a great campaign to correct the history of Spain. without this qualifying title encumbering the Presupuestos.

Sánchez should not be authorized to withdraw more than 20,000 million euros from Spain unless representatives of the national sovereignty have the opportunity to examine and approve their gas forecasts.
