Sheinbaum assured that the families affected by the rains recorded at the beginning of October are not alone and the Government of Mexico will continue to address their needs.

Mexico City, October 23 (However).- The President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo visited this Thursday Rica’s picture, Veracruzan area devastated by the overflow of the Cazones River due to the intense rains from two weeks ago, which until now leave 79 muertos and thousands of victims in said entity, as well as in Puebla, Hidalgo, Queretaro y San Luis Potosi. The president stated that a retaining wall in the torrent to avoid a tragedy similar in the future.

“What we want is for Poza Rica to be better than it was before this flood. […] We have to clear the river, because it has lost its storage capacity, between Conagua and the Secretary of the Navy, they are going to start little by little, and also the wall and everything that has to be done to prevent a situation like this from happening again,” he expressed.

The Head of the Federal Executive was accompanied by the Governor of the state, Rocío Nahle García; the Secretary of Welfare, Ariadna Montiel Reyes; and the director of the National Water Commission (Conagua), Efraín Morales López.

The need for a wall is not new and municipal authorities had warned of its urgency.

The Poza Rica Development Plan from 2018 to 2021 indicated that it was a priority to build a wall on the Cazones River to prevent flooding, but the work was not completed, despite the fact that the current Mayor, from the Morena party, Fernando Luis Remes, assured in December 2023 that he would speak with the National Water Commission (Conagua) to resume work.

“In Poza Rica, Veracruz, we monitored cleaning progress and visited the support delivery center for families affected by rains. They are not alone, help and attention to needs continues,” he reported through his social networks.

In the municipality’s Welfare Module, the Head of the Federal Executive explained that yesterday the Welfare Secretariat began the delivery of the first support of 20 thousand pesos, as well as two food vouchers and one for household goods.

In addition, he assured them that the Government of Mexico will not leave the area until all families are cared for. He recalled that additional support will be provided for the reconstruction of homes, the amount of which will depend on the level of damage, which will be defined according to the Wellbeing Census carried out by the National Servants.
