Amazon Web Service (AWS) acknowledged an incident on its service-health pages, saying it was investigating “increased error rates” and delays affecting “multiple AWS services,” particularly in the US-East-1 (Northern Virginia) region, a central hub for many cloud customers. Because many apps rely on AWS for databases and compute, problems there can cascade to unrelated services and cause widespread disruption.
Downdetector, a website that tracks complaints about websites and web services not working, shows the sudden and widespread nature of the outage.
Around the same time that Snapchat users reported issues with the app, users of several other websites, including Roblox, Canva, Duolingo, Wordle, and more, also experienced problems.
Amazon Web Services offers a wide range of internet infrastructure services, enabling companies to rent computing power and servers to operate their apps and websites.
