ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka average coconut prices fell 1.8 percent at the weekly coconut auction, while the number of nuts offered and sold continued to climb, Coconut Development Authority (CDA) data showed.
The average price for 1,000 nuts was 136,059.65 rupees on October 9.
The CDA refrained from disclosing the highest and lowest prices for a nut at the auction. The authority has not declared these prices since July 19.
In response to a query, a CDA official told EconomyNext that they were instructed to do so.
The number of nuts offered climbed to 717,319 from 682,300 a week earlier, while nuts sold moved to 617,850 from 578,265.
In the local market, the wholesale price for a large nut was 175-185 rupees, while small nuts were 150-165 a piece.
The Farmgate price in Kurunegala was 130-145 rupees a nut.
Copra was 100,000 to 130,000 rupees per 250 kg.
The retail price for a nut was 187-205 rupees at supermarkets.
Local wholesale prices of coconut oil were 800,000 to 870,000 rupees per metric ton. (Colombo/Oct14/2025)
