As a sign of the solidarity that characterizes the people of Merida, the municipal government of Mérida headed by municipal president Cecilia Patrón Laviada gathered 10 tons of food and basic necessities to support families affected by the floods in several communities in Veracruz, a bulletin reports.
The call had a high response from the Merida community, including schools, universities, civil and religious associations, which generously contributed clothing, personal hygiene items, non-perishable food, water and pet food.
“Since we began the new style of governing Mérida, we have committed to improving people’s lives and prioritizing their well-being at all times. We govern with sensitivity, empathy and solidarity, directing our actions to those who need our help most and on this occasion we unite around our compatriots from Veracruz,” said the mayor.
Cecilia Patrón reported that the aid shipment was carried out in collaboration with Aliarse por Yucatán, ADO and Aliarse por Veracruz, as part of the Aliarse por México network, which promotes corporate social responsibility to create more fair, supportive and dignified environments for all.
Gratitude
The councilor expressed her gratitude to the Merida community for its solidarity and collaboration, emphasizing that its response demonstrates that in Mérida warmth is a quality that is lived and shared, strengthening the bonds of unity and support.
“We understand the pain that comes with the loss that those who were affected have faced, they lost their homes, they even lost loved ones and pets. We extend a hug of solidarity to all of you, we want you to know that you are not alone. Mérida is with you,” he stressed.
Trucks from the ADO company loaded with humanitarian aid left yesterday for Veracruz to deliver this support to the affected families, he added. The pantries were sent to the towns of Poza Rica, Álamo Temapache, Espinal, El Higo, Zontecomatlán, Papantla, Gutiérrez Zamora and Coyutla.
As you may remember, the Mérida City Council installed the collection center in the Citizen Services module, located on the ground floor of the Municipal Palace, to support families affected by the intense rains and severe flooding in the state of Veracruz.
Among what was collected was water, non-perishable food and cleaning and personal hygiene items, such as clothing, diapers, medicines, pet food, feminine towels, neutral soap, toothpaste and powdered milk.
“Today, our sisters and brothers of Veracruz are in a very vulnerable situation that requires our full support. As a City Council that is an ally of the people, we help those who were affected by the floods,” concluded the municipal president.
