A federal judge this Wednesday prohibited Donald Trump’s Administration from laying off thousands of workers due to the partial government shutdown.
District Judge Susan Illston in San Francisco said she agreed with two unions that the Trump administration is illegally using the lack of government funding to carry out its agenda of reducing the size of the federal government.
So far, the Senate has failed up to eight times, most recently this Wednesday, in its attempt to approve a temporary financing resolution that would end the partial shutdown of the federal government, which has already extended for 14 days.
During this closure, more than 4,000 layoffs have been recorded in different federal agencies such as the Department of Justice and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Also, airports, national parks and federal museums have felt its effects and have begun to reduce operations or close.
The stalemate reflects the lack of agreement between Democrats and Republicans on budget conditions, especially around health spending, social subsidies and the Trump Administration’s fiscal priorities.
The Republican has stepped up the pressure by announcing that on Friday he will reveal a list of federal programs that his administration plans to permanently eliminate.
