At least 97 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and another 230 injured in Gaza since the ceasefire came into force on October 10, the government of the enclave, controlled by Hamas, said last night.
“We affirm that the Israeli occupation has committed a series of serious and repeated violations since the announcement of the end of the war in the Gaza Strip, totaling 80 documented violations as of Sunday,” stated the Hamas Government communications office.
Among the violations mentioned are direct shooting at civilians, deliberate bombings and attacks and the detention of several civilians, among others.
“This constitutes a flagrant and clear violation of the ceasefire decision and the norms of international humanitarian law,” added the Government of the Palestinian enclave.
Among those killed since the ceasefire agreement came into force at noon on October 10th are 11 members of the same family – including seven children, aged between 5 and 13 – whose vehicle was bombed by Israel on October 17th.
According to an investigation published by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (CPDHR), the family was traveling from the south of the Gaza Strip to Gaza City in an open vehicle, which “clearly indicated its civilian nature”, explained the organization.
On October 16, the CPDHR also documented the murder of two brothers, aged 18 and 20, in a drone attack in the Abasan area, east of Khan Yunis (south). Two days earlier, Israeli drones killed a 25-year-old man and injured another in the village of Al-Fukhari, also in Khan Yunis.
On Sunday alone, at least 35 Palestinians were killed in dozens of bombings in different areas of the Gaza Strip, according to a count made by Gaza journalists using data from hospital morgues.
