Chatsworth basketball coach, relative of the player involved in the altercation

Chatsworth girls basketball coach Kaio Lewis was confronted about a Chatsworth player’s relationship Friday night after his team’s game at Taft, people with knowledge of the incident who were not authorized to discuss it told The Times. It turned into a physical and verbal altercation that is now being investigated by the LA Police Department.

A statement from the LA Police Department read: “We are aware of an incident that occurred on Friday following the Chatsworth-Taft girls basketball game. The LAPD responded to this incident of an alleged verbal and physical altercation between two adults. This investigation is active and the lead investigative agency will take over from the LA Police Department. In order to maintain the integrity of this investigation, we will not be releasing any further details at this time, if appropriate, we will not be in available at this time.”

The incident occurred hours after Chatsworth baseball coach Marcus Alvarado announced that he had resigned from his coaching position, saying he had lost his love for baseball to deal with parental complaints. Led Chatsworth to the 2022 City Section Open Division Championship.

Administrators Lewis and Chatsworth did not respond to text messages seeking comment about the basketball incident.

The Chatsworth girls basketball team’s record is 0-4 in the West Valley League this season.
