From the snow to the scoreboard, it was a record-breaking Saturday for men’s basketball

Think it snowed a lot on Saturday? Please load some of the totals inside. College basketball’s impressive numbers came after another.

Cameron Boozer had 32 points for Duke, who was fifth among freshman scorers entering Saturday. It’s the first time in Division I history that three rookies hit 40 on the same day.

Illinois’ Keaton Wagler scored 19 points in Purdue’s first 10 minutes. He didn’t stop until he scored 46 points, the most by any opponent at Mackay Arena and the most by any player against a top-10 team. Wagler made 13 of 17 shots and eight of nine from the three-point line. Before the game against Maryland, he was 1-for-9 from beyond the arc. “It’s a crazy thing I never thought I’d do,” Wagler said.

His offense was one of the reasons Purdue shot 56.9% from the field, committed just 3 turnovers, led for nearly 28 minutes and lost. Another factor in the 88-82 final was the Steamers’ 18-2 run on second chances.

Houston ranks second in the nation in passing defense, allowing just 60 points on the road at Texas Tech. The Red striker scored 55 goals in the first half. That surpassed 16 opponents in an entire game against the Cougars last season, the most first-half touchdowns Kelvin Sampson has given up in 402 games as Houston coach. That leak meant freshman Kingston Flemings’ 42 points couldn’t be saved. Texas Tech’s 90-86 win was Houston’s first 16-game road loss since 2024.

BYU outshot Utah 91-78, with AJ Dybantsa scoring nearly half of those goals. His 43 are the most ever by a BYU freshman.

Wagler. The Flemings. Dibanza. The three juniors combined to make 43 of 70 shots, 17 of 25 from the 3-point line and 28 of 33 free throws.

Saturday Roundup: Texas Tech, North Carolina and Illinois all have big wins in top 25 contests.

After Saturday’s games, the Big Ten’s top four teams are a combined 33-3 heading into league play. Purdue, the nation’s preseason No. 1 team, is not one of them. The Boilermakers are now in fifth place.

Another byproduct of a tumultuous day. Thank you for your entertainment and start with the first year students.
