Helexia, a French company belonging to the Voltalia group, signed an agreement with NGen Group to implement energy storage systems in Portugal with an investment of 20 million euros in 2026.
The agreement foresees the development of a portfolio of more than 100 megawatts (MW) and Helexia anticipates completing around a quarter of it (25 MW) during 2026, which represents an investment of around 20 million euros.
“What we value from this pipeline of 100 MW is to start this year and in the course of 2026 implement a quarter of this capacity, around 25 MW, and we estimate an investment in the order of 20 million euros for this”, said the director of Helexia in Portugal, Luis Pinho, in an interview with Lusa.
These storage solutions consist of implementing systems behind-the-meter (i.e. directly linked to the point of consumption) that allow companies to “reduce costs, achieve greater autonomy in managing their energy and provide services to the electricity grid, generating new sources of revenue”, reads a statement.
The system is integrated with photovoltaic panels, allowing the battery to be charged whenever there is excess solar production.
“With NGen we want to be an active part of this natural evolution of the energy sector, which will necessarily move towards ever greater digitalization and ever greater decentralization”, stated Luis Pinho.
He added that these systems allow for “consumption and price arbitration and also promote network services”.
The director of Helexia also said that this business model “allows companies to be protagonists of the security and stability of the electrical system, no longer being companies just purchasers of energy, reinforcing the concept of prosumerthey become a producer, a consumer and at the same time a guarantor of the stability of the system”.
Helexia also highlighted that these storage solutions are aligned with the new Global System Management Procedures Manual (MPGGS), published by the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE).
NGen Group is a European energy technology company specializing in battery energy storage systems (BESS) and smart grid solutions.
Helexia works on the development and implementation of decarbonization solutions, through the use of renewable energy and optimization of energy consumption.
