Indiana football is on its way to a national championship game, and it didn’t seem like a stretch. First, they rolled over the Tide, one of the greatest programs in college football history at Alabama, 38-3.

But then Indiana defeated Oregon 30-20 in Eugene to rematch one of its best regular season games all year. It will certainly be close. right?

Playing in front of what must have been close to a capacity crowd in Bloomington, Indiana, the Hoosiers had their foot on the gas in the first game, and Cignetti never let off the pedal.

The defense had three interceptions in the first half and was able to capitalize on all three. If there’s any question about whether Mendoza deserves the Heisman, check this out. Over the past two games, Mendoza has five completions and eight assists. He was 31-of-36 8 times for 369 yards.

Indiana set a new CFP double-game scoring record with 69 points, breaking the previous record of 59 points set by Georgia in 2022. It was the two most dominant games in CFP history. Mendoza returned to his hometown of Miami and attended Christopher Columbus High School, the high school of Canes head coach Mario Cristobal. Although it will be Hard Rock Stadium for Miami, if the Peach Bowl was any indication, Indiana makes the trip.

Indiana is 26-2 in 28 games under Curt Cignetti. Two losses? Last season’s national champion Ohio State and national runner-up Notre Dame. In the 30 years BC, before Cignetti, Indiana football won five seasons, the same number of national championships held by Miami. IU hasn’t won a bowl game since 1991. Regardless of what happens on the South Shore, what we’re seeing in Bloomington is just a spectacle. Monday, January 19th cannot come soon enough.
