The coordinator of the Left Bloc, Mariana Mortágua, condemned the reports of violence perpetrated by Hamas in the Gaza Strip and argued that Palestine can only be a free state without the Islamist movement.

“This is a decision that belongs to the Palestinians and not me. If the choice were mine, no, but countries are what they allow them to be, and I think that ideally I can only condemn executions in the public square like those we heard about, that is very clear”, stated Mariana Mortágua when asked whether the Islamist group can be part of the future of Palestine.

“There is no justice by one’s own hands, whether by Hamas or by Israel”, he continued, on the sidelines of a conversation taking place in Lisbon, with Portuguese activists Miguel Duarte and Sofia Aparício who were part of the Sumud Global Flotilla.

The Spanish news agency EFE reported that videos are circulating on social media showing Hamas members executing handcuffed people in the streets, claiming that they were collaborating with Israel.

The news agency France-Presse (AFP) specified that eight alleged Israeli collaborators were publicly executed.

After several days of clashes, witnesses said on Tuesday that intense fighting took place in the east of Gaza City, in the Shujaia neighborhood, between a Hamas-affiliated unit and armed clans and bands, some of which were reportedly supported by Israel.

The four Portuguese who were part of the Global Sumud flotilla arrived on October 5th, at 10:30 pm, at Humberto Delgado airport, in Lisbon, where they were awaited by family members and pro-Palestinian supporters.

Mariana Mortágua, actress Sofia Aparício and activists Miguel Duarte and Diogo Chaves were detained in Israel, after Israeli forces intercepted around 50 vessels from the Global Sumud Flotilla, which intended to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
