Michelle Bolsonaro, wife of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, sentenced to 27 years in prison for attempted coup d’état, does not exclude the possibility of running for the 2026 presidential elections in Brazil.
In response to the France-Press agency (AFP), Michelle Bolsonaro stressed that “Any decision on possible candidacies will undergo an in-depth debate” with your husband. “And it will be the fruit of prayers to discern the mission that God eventually wants to entrust me with.”declared the former first lady, aged 43.
Fervent evangelical ChristianMichelle Bolsonaro is one of the personalities identified as a possible representative of the conservative camp at the polls next year, along with the governor of the state of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas.
Under house arrest since the beginning of August and sentenced, in September, to 27 years in prison for attempted coup d’état, Jair Bolsonaro, 70 years old, will not be able to repeat the 2022 electoral duel against Lula da Silva, his successor and likely candidate from the left.
“He is and will continue to be the greatest leader of the right in Brazil”said Michelle Bolsonaro, regretting the attempts to “impor [ao marido] the early designation of candidates” to his succession.
Also seen as a potential vice-presidential or Senate candidate, Michelle Bolsonaro stated that she is still “too soon” to talk about the 2026 elections.
