A court in the northern city of Kano Nigeriaordered the Islamic police to celebrate the wedding between two celebrities from the social network TikTok for having published a video considered “indecent”.
On Monday, a judge ordered the Kano religious police, known as Hisbah, to hold the wedding between two TikTok users for having published videos in which they appeared kissing – an act considered by the city’s conservative Muslim society as immoral and depraved – within 60 days.
“The court ordered Hisbah to marry the man and the woman, as they are so in love that they display their romance on the TikTok“, declared the Kano state judicial spokesperson, Baba-Jibo Ibrahim.
Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda released videos where they are kissing and hugging. Wushirya, who had previously clashed with authorities over similar videos, was arrested and placed in pre-trial detention.
A religious police official confirmed that he had received the court order on Monday and that wedding preparations had already begun. “Although the court determined that the wedding must take place within 60 days, we are determined to hold it as soon as possible“, stated the general director of Hisbah, Abba Sufi, who added that both “gave their consent”.
Idris Mai Wushirya’s parents were summoned on Monday by Hisbah, where they also gave their “explicit consent”while authorities tried to contact the family of Basira Yar Guda, who lives in Zamfara state, more than 300 kilometers away.
