At the TSF microphones, this morning, Alexandra Leitão (PS), Bruno Mascarenhas (Chega) and João Ferreira (PCP) asked for consequences that match the seriousness of the conclusions.

Alexandra Leitão highlighted to TSF that “the chairman of the board of directors of Carris is unable to continue in his positionthere is an absolutely insurmountable breach of trust” and added that “the set of negligence and carelessness that led to this technical failure It requires political responsibility as well.”

The socialist also highlighted: “The carelessness and negligence evident in this report require that, at the highest level, consequences be drawn. It is important that you know that, as leader of the opposition in Lisbon City Council, I will do everything I can to make these situations even clearer. and have the appropriate consequences. It is not about sending away an intermediate leader and considering that the issues have been resolved. The blame we are witnessing is degrading, it even embarrasses me.”

Bruno Mascarenhas described the document as “devastating” and stated to TSF: “Of course, a report like this could never point out political flaws. Now, we need to understand that a set of political responsibilities must be deduced, because the report is devastating.” The Chega councilor also added that “the report points to the information that the maintenance company informed Carris that the cable was not suitable for the function” and that “it is necessary to understand that Carris knew in advance that this cable that broke was not adjusted to its function for which it was acquired.”

João Ferreira reinforced to TSF that “It is the responsibility of the President of the Chamber, who oversees the company, to ensure that these recommendations are effectively implemented. There is also a responsibility towards what is behind, which is to explain why they had not been implemented until now” and highlighted that the non-conformities highlighted by the report “are serious”.

The PCP councilor also added that “even if the accident had not occurred, it is serious enough that Carris equipment, and not just the Glória elevator, operated in conditions in which it should not have operated and which posed a risk to users. This in itself justifies the assumption of responsibilities on a technical and political level and justifies measuresfrom the outset, of correction and guarantee that all security is reestablished”.
