Ahe negotiations between Luís Montenegro’s Executive and the Public Administration (AP) unions have not yet ended, but the Public Service will stop this Friday, in a general strike. With the Government showing no signs, so far, of going beyond what was foreseen in the salary agreement signed in 2024 with the union structures affiliated to UGT (Fesap and STE), the Common Front (affiliated to CGTP) — which was left out of the agreement — went on strike. The UGT unions did not join, maintaining the hope that the Ministry of Finance will give something more to public employees. With minister Miranda Sarmento repeating that the budget margin for 2026 is scarce, attention focuses, at the next meeting, on October 29, on increasing the meal allowance and returning to the 25 days of vacation that the unions defend, reversing the elimination of three days from the troika years. But the Government is not committed.
