Texas Tech’s offensive power snapped Houston’s 11-game winning streak.
No. 12 Texas Tech snapped No. 6 Houston’s 11-game winning streak and won its 12th straight with a 90-86 home win in Lubbock on Saturday.
The Red Raiders’ 90 points were the most since Kelvin Sampson’s 100-95 OT win over No. 9 Texas A&M in the second round of the 2023-24 NCAA Tournament.
Texas Tech (16-4, 6-1, 12) flipped the script on a 69-65 loss to the Cougars in early January and held on to an 11-game hitting streak against Houston (17-2, 5-1) on a perfect day in Lubbock, holding the nation’s longest winning streak.

Redskins J.T. Toppin had 17 points and Kerwin Walton had 14 for a 55-49 halftime lead.
Houston responded in the second quarter, turning the game into a shootout. Kingston Flemings tied the score 63-63 and was part of a season-high 42-point game, the most ever by a Houston freshman.
But Toppin kept Texas Tech in front and Donovan Atwell drilled back-to-back threes to give the Red Raiders an 81-77 lead with four minutes left.

Toppin finished with 31 points and 12 rebounds for his 13th double-double of the season as Texas Tech snapped a back-to-back win.
Texas Tech visits UCF on Saturday, Jan. 31, and Houston hits the road to face TCU on Wednesday, Jan. 28.
No. 22 North Carolina cruised past No. 14 Virginia for its first ACC road win
No. 22 North Carolina secured its first ACC win of the season with an 85-80 victory over the Cavaliers, snapping Virginia’s 11-game home winning streak at 14 in the South’s oldest rivalry.

North Carolina (16-4, 4-3 ACC) overcame a 15-point first half deficit and outscored Virginia (16-3, 5-2 ACC) 25-15 over 11 minutes in the second half. The game was tied 67:67, and “Tar Usgii” closed the game with 7:31 left.
Freshman Caleb Wilson led North Carolina with 20 points, tying freshman Tyler Hansbrough for the most 20-point games in program history.
North Carolina will play Georgia Tech on Saturday, Jan. 31, while Virginia will travel to Notre Dame.
No. 11 Illinois suffered its second straight loss at No. 4 Purdue
Keaton Wagler turned in a performance for the years, scoring 46 points, the most by a visiting player at Mackay Arena, and pacing No. 11 Illinois. 4 Purdue 88โ82. The Boilermakers suffered their second loss of the week after Wagler’s explosion led the Illini to a stunning victory and a 69-67 loss at UCLA on Tuesday.
Illinois trailed 43-39 at halftime, but got out of the break on a 7-0 run between Wagler and Jake Davis. From there, Wagler repeatedly responded to Purdue’s push, keeping Illinois steady whenever the game heated up. Purdue’s Braden Smith made a three to cut the deficit to 82-80 and his game-winning free throws sealed the win.
Tomislav Ivicic and David Mirkovic scored crucial inside points and added their second to help Illinois control the glass in the final minutes. Smith led Purdue with a slew of buckets, but the Steamers struggled to get stops against Wagler’s relentless hitting.
Illinois closed out the game 9-5, tightened up its defense and won key possessions. The win marked the Illini’s biggest win of the season and sent Purdue on a rare two-game skid.
