The right crib
In Andalusia, more precisely in La Puebla del Río, province of Seville, he was born with the official name of José Antonio Morante Camacho. Son of Rafael Morante, who died in 2022, and Josefa Camacho, Pepi.
1988
First times
His first public performance took place in Villamanrique de la Condesa and, six years later, he became a heifer, debuting with chippers in Guillena. He took the alternative in 1998 in Burgos and opened the Puerta del Príncipe da Maestranza in Seville, at just 19 years old.
2005
It won’t be forever
After announcing to the world the previous year that he suffered from mental problems, he marries Cynthia Anthunez, but the union does not last more than three years, marked by the melancholy that affects him. They have one son, José Antonio, a professional footballer.
2010
Neighbor love
He married for a second time with Elisabeth Garrido, from the same country as the bullfighter. The civil ceremony takes place in Alcalá de Guadaíra, in front of great bullfighting figures. Together they have two daughters, Lola and Maria.
2016
Through Portuguese lands
On his return to Seville, he appears as the only sword in a race at Campo Pequeno, in which he deals with four bulls. A special night with fado and flamenco.
2021
Portuguese friend
Pedro Jorge Marques became his agent, but he was already like a brother. They met when the Portuguese were very young and had an idol in Morante. It is with him that the bullfighter lives in Marinha Grande, while recovering from a major depression.
2024
An aggravation
He has to interrupt the season indefinitely due to the return of psychiatric problems and the “deep sadness” that takes over him, affecting his psychological and physical balance.
2025
The announced end
On Día de la Hispanidad, he suffers a harvest, cuts off two ears and rips out the collection (small braid), surprising the bullfighting world and leaving everyone in tears, when he announces that he is abandoning bullfighting. He left in glory, as one of the greats, alongside Manolete and Joselito Gallo.
