If you’re someone who’s been holding on to a phone or classic Smart TV for a few years, pay close attention. Starting April 1, 2026, Netflix will roll out a global technical update that will disable apps on thousands of devices that don’t meet the new security and performance standards.
WHY WILL NETFLIX WORK ON SOME TEAM?
The platform tries to optimize its service so that it offers the most advanced functions and, above all, guarantees the protection of users’ personal data. Old operating systems lack the necessary security features, causing frequent and vulnerable failures.
Minimum requirements to watch Netflix:
- Android: Version 7.0 or higher.
- iOS (iPhone): Next version 17.
PHONE LIST THAT RUNS THROUGH THE NETFLIX APP
Even if you have the app installed, if your team doesn’t reach the mentioned software levels, the service will be automatically suspended. Among the most popular requested models stand out:
In the Android ecosystem:
- Samsung: Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Grand Prime.
- LG: Optimus L5 and LG G2.
- Sony: Xperia Z and Xperia Z1.
In the Apple ecosystem (iPhone):
- All iPhone models
ALSO AFFECT SMART TVS AND SPEAKERS
The modification is not limited to mobile phones. If you have an old entertainment center, you may notice that apps disappear or have to load:
- Apple TV: First generation models.
- Smart TVs: Panels from brands such as LG, Panasonic and Samsung manufactured before 2015.
HOW DO I KNOW IF YOUR DEVICE IS COMPATIBLE?
To avoid surprises on April 1st, check your operating system version by following these steps:
- On Android: Go to Configuration > Find Phone or Software Info.
- On iPhone: Go to Edit > General > About. Now look at the installed version of iOS.
Pro tip: If your device isn’t compatible, there’s no need to change your TV. You can choose to connect a modern multimedia device (such as Chromecast, Roku or Fire Stick) to continue enjoying your favorite series and movies.
