The Louvre Museum reopened its doors to visitors on the morning of Wednesday, October 22, for the first time since the robbery carried out on Sunday by four robbers who took eight pieces of jewelry, causing an estimated loss of 88 million euros. However, the Apollo Gallery, where the robbery took place, remains closed.
Among the stolen objects are eight jewels from the former French crown, including Empress Eugenie’s tiara, from the 19th century.
Authorities confirmed that four people were directly involved in the robbery and that they may have had “several support teams”.
The investigation, conducted by the Interregional Specialized Jurisdiction (Jirs) in Paris, mobilizes around 100 investigators.
On Sunday, the group of robbers took just a few minutes to enter Galeria de Apolo in a goods elevator, quickly break two of the three showcases installed at the end of 2019 to store the precious jewelry, using an angle grinder, and escape with the pieces.
